Another year long gone............

I surely didn't realize how long it had been since I posted to my blog. It has been a year and Nursing school is long over and I am working at the local hospital as an RN. It seems like I was in school forever. I have finally finished my studio space and have begun to create art again........doing the happy dance every time I think about it. Recently I have been working on some projects I had been putting off for the last couple of years. I just realized they have redone Blogger and I really like the changes. I will do my best to add more frequently to my blog and be more artful everyday. I wish everyone a wonderful new year and as my husband would say spring is just a few weeks away, only he would know the days exactly.

Nursing school almost over

I know I have been pretty lax about getting any new art done. I have been trying to finish up with school so I can start the journey for the rest of my life. Which I hope will include much more art and creative time. I have several wonderful ideas logged away in the corner of my mind. Occassionally one of them will creep out and I have to attend to it immediately and the others wait patiently on me to get to them. The next few months are going to be the mosts hectic that I will have so I hope to find some crafty time as I go. Right now I have to hop of my beloved computer and get some much needed nursing reading done. Have a great week.

Well I don't mind making my very own playmates and these guys have tons of personality. Jumper is so bright and boootiful and Bernie looks a little cranky but I am sure he is just a bit cold. Only in the 20s outside so he has reason to complain. I am not sure if I will sell these or keep them for myself.. Sometimes I have to indulge my childish side as well as everyone else's.....LOL

Well that Muse is still haunting me........I had a million things I wanted to do today and she just wouldn't leave me alone. She has had me making these light switch covers using old magazines and such. Terribly fun to make I must admit.........LOL

Now I am resting finally....eating pringles in the old recliner thinking of having a beer. I think I could do this everyday............hmmmm guess not just because there is always too much else to do. Anyone interested in the lightswitch covers can email me $16.99 for single and $19.99 for a double---these took quite a bit of time to make. Each has been sprayed with a clear sealer several times. I have several of these in my home and they hold really well.

I know that I have been terrible about posting here but it just seems to be so hard to find the time to create something that you can't get out of your mind and to find time to share it with everyone else. I spend lots of time just trying to decide which project I want to do and then by the time I decide I have to hurry, LOL

I do have some new things. I am moving into a different direction for now. I have a muse that just won't leave me alone so I have decided to just do what she tells me, that is so much easier than fighting her and I am having so much fun. Maybe the biggest lesson I have learned is that my inner voice is much smarter than I......................

Almost Christmas

Well today is the day for me to put my tree up--- not that I enjoy putting it off. I usually have my tree up the 1st of November but for some reason this year I just didn't find the time. It always feels more festive with a tree, lights and some pretty papers and packaging to catch the sparkle. I just know that my little doll ornaments are screaming and gasping for air in those old plastic bins. I bet they are calling me terrible names and planning on getting revenge as I sleep later in the month.......I don't know do I want to put my life in danger? Yep, LOL, better get 'em out. If you don't have your tree up you better get to it, those sweet little ornaments will hold a grudge.

My Fun Raised Beds

Well we have spent all week working on these great raised beds. I have many more planned but these are a great start. We bought our topsoil from William's Nursery here in Whitley County. They have wonderful plants and always have a smile. So stop by and see them.

I have decided to change the name of my website Cumberland Falls Arts. We live so close to this beautiful state park that I thought it would only be fitting to change the website in Cumberland Falls honor. Millions of visitors come to our hometown of Corbin Ky to see the Moonbow, the only moon bow in this hemisphere. We have such a wonderland of natural beauty and it is such an inspiration. I hope to add some wonderful pictures from this area regularly.

A day at the beach, I can't think of anything more magical and beautiful. I have spent time on beaches ranging from Daytona Fl., Wrightsville NC, Destin Fl. I also loved Cancun and Ocapulco Mexico. I wanted to paint something that reminded me of that wonderful time I spent on these wonderful sand covered paradises.

Finally I have gotten back to painting. I have been so busy lately that it has been a real challenge for me to paint lately. I put it off for weeks but the need overtook me and I was able to finish some work. Yeh!!! I love to paint but sometimes it is just intimidating to finish something that you can be proud of.
I have added a few works to my website that I had put aside for a while. I hope to keep track of my work more and add pics more often.
I am also writing some short stories so I will let everyone know how that goes. I hope to be able to add some here soon.

Alice in Wonderland Primitive Doll Pattern

I have just finished up a new pattern for pattern mart. I am working on a series of dolls from Alice in Wonderland. This is the third Alice that I have done and I just love how she turned out. All of my patterns are easy to make and would be fine for a beginner. I can't do any fancy sewing so that makes it easier for everyone else.

Charleston SC vacation

Well just got back from Charleston a few days ago and it is a beautiful city. Way too much good food. If I lived there I would weigh 500 lbs. Really liked the seafood. I found a really cool cemetery on one of the old streets lined with 300 yr old trees. Really beautiful !!! I will download some pics tomorrow.

I love doing these little quirky portraits and think I will stick with them for a while. I move around so much in my thoughts, it makes me tired. LOL

I will be so glad to see Spring get here. It was around 70 the last couple of days but is now back down to around 30- I wish it would just get warm.

I am working on adding more items to etsy right now. It seems that ebay has does something terrible to their search and nothing seems to show up any more.

I wish they would just leave things the way they were, ofcourse I know change can be good too.

Crow Tarot Finished at Last

I went out Sunday to take pictures of old Civil War homes in the area.

It is a shame that some of them are just left to fall apart. It is such a sad and beautiful sight at the same time. I used one of the pictures today to do a mixed media work on 20 x 20 canvas. I love the colors and the sense of nostalgia.

I have been busy working on my Crow Tarot deck and have made it half way through. I have starting selling pendants with the crows on them too. I have several listed on ebay right now and hope to have the entire deck finished by the middle of February.

More on My Crow Tarot Deck

I have painted the first five cards. I am so excited about designing this deck of cards. I began my interest in the tarot in college. I also played around with runes, but just couldn't get the same feel for them.

My first deck was called the Enochian Deck which was wonderful. I then moved on to the Witch's Deck which I still have. I have been looking around and there are hundreds of kinds of Tarot decks to choose from. I have several that I would like to design. I will post some pics of the others as I get them done.

I have been having a ball working on a very unique project for me. I have decided to do a Crow Tarot Deck of my own. I have been fascinated with the Tarot for years and have decided it is time. I have already begun work on the originals. I have done them as aceo cards and listed them on ebay. I wish I had waited until I had all my cards finished but I already have bids so I will have to finish my task as I had first planned.

I have been very busy of late getting things ready for the new year. I have been through my house like a whirl wind. I have been cleaning and decluttering. Mostly just throwing things out. It just dawned on me how full my little house is.
I think sometimes I have bouts of claustrophobia. I just know I want it to have half the stuff that it has now. I find that if I close my eyes it is easier to throw things out.
I lost my sister-n-law the day before Thanksgiving and I have been trying to deal with that also.
She was only 31 yrs old. It seems so unfair for someone so young, with two young children and a career to just disappear from the planet. It has made me realize how little time we really have here. I have been trying to make everyday count. It is a shame that it takes a tragedy for us to see how lucky we are.
Well enough of that for today. I hope to be able to post at least every other day this year. I hope to be more disciplined. Tomorrow you can take a peek at my new Crow Tarot that I am working on.

Sad news from the heartland

Last week was a very sad week for me. I lost my beloved puppy of eight years. He was a very special dog. He loved keeping track of his small space and was a very big presence in my life. It has been so cold here this week and I really miss talking to him. I hope that he is safe and warm where he is now.

Tornados everywhere today, but I have been painting up a storm. Today I worked on some outsider work. I have two wonderful characters: Herschel and The Black Heart Family. I think they are so full of nastiness. I love the Black Heart family-they never seem to do anything right and are always fighting. Herschel just never seems to get anywhere. Tomorrow I am going to work on another Clown painting which is what I like best.

Nasty and cold here today. It rained all day. All I want to do on days like this is sleep. The weather channel is predicting a bunch of tornados too. I wish it could stay 80 all year long. Maybe I should move to Hawaii, or Australia. I would love to visit either place. I am still trying to figure out my style and it is driving me crazy. I will keep everyone posted.

I have been working hard on a new series of outsider art. As a self taught artist, it is hard sometimes to get things just the way you want them. I think my work has grown and evolved a lot in the last few months. I hope that I continue to grow as an artist. I try not to get discouraged as quickly as I used to. I have been checking in to some galleries to see what is out there. Ebay has finally picked up some. I am hoping Christmas will be a good time.

I have moved in another direction with my work and I am really pleased with it. I have worked really hard on the realism end of my painting and it is starting to pay off. Well today is the first full day of fall and I am looking forward to it. I love halloween and that is just around the corner. I did two really cool paintings yesterday and listed them on ebay. I was in a very dark mood. Sometimes it comes over me like a fog, but it does creat some wonderful art. Ebay has been really slow lately so I have a lot of time to refresh and think clearer. I hope to get a couple more listed this weekend. Maybe things will pick up soon.
Tonight is when the monstor storm Rita is supposed to hit and looks like she is going to be a nightmare for those poor people on the coast again. I really should post to my blog more, it just seems like there is never enough time to do anything. I need to go and get some work done, there is that time thing again.

Well it has been a while since I posted. I have been enjoying what is left of the summer. I have also been working on a idea for a series, I am calling it the Land of Meihre. It will have fantastic characters and give me a much needed creative workout. I have some many ideas, it is hard to find the time to put them all into a work. I will keep everyone posted. This weeks disaster

Well I have spent the last week with the rest of america watching the news. It has been so hard to do anything but watch over and over again and try to believe that it is really happening in our own country. I hope New Orleans the best of luck and would love to see that great city again. I was there in Oct. 2001, just after 9-11 and people were so concerned for those in New York. Now they need our prayers. I have painted a couple of paintings with New Orleans as a theme. It makes me feel closer to those that have lost so much.

Well now that hurrican Katrina has destoyed the gulf coast, everybody will need as much help as they can get. I have spent the last few days glued to the tv looking at the destruction. We missed the large amount of rain they we would have. My prayers go out to those poor people who have nothing left. Hopefully everyone will pull together to help as they have in the past. I am off to get some painting done. More later.

The hardest part of any day is getting started. I spend at least two hours in the morning, checking emails, checking auctions and printing off necessary stuff before I can ever get started painting. Painting which should be the most important part for an artists seems to get shoved behind all the business stuff that we need to do. I am finally done with the necessary and now I can go paint.

I thought since this was my first post I would tell you a little about myself. I am a self taught artist from Eastern Ky. I live in a tiny town with more cars than people, and I try to paint everyday. I paint mostly surreal and abstract art. They seem to be more interesting to me. My favorite artist is Dali. I have always been fascinated with surreal and abstract art and the way they get their message across. I will try to add more as the week goes on.
